GirlGeek of the Week
October 2000
Sarah Bansak
Sarah Bansak has always had a secret dream
of being a computer superhero -- swooping down to save unsuspecting
victims of bugs, bombs and general computer mayhem. Much like Superman's
"mild-mannered Clark Kent", "Sarah Bansak" is merely an alias to disguise
the true identity of TECHGIRL, who sports a computer tool-belt in
an ever so stylish manner.
When did you first discover your love and/or
obsession with computers and technology?
I first discovered my love of/obsession with
computers in third grade, when my father purchased an apple IIe,
and my parents enrolled me in a week-long computer camp, where I
am still the reigning WORM champion.
How do you earn a living?
I was formerly the Mac/PC Troubleshooter and
Design Director for an e-commerce site, which has just crashed and
burned, so I'm currently looking for jobs which allow me to utilize
my art skills as well as my geeky tech skills.
Do you consider yourself
a Geek?
Not just a geek, a geek superhero.
What is your favorite Website?
The
Onion
What do you do when you are not working?
Work on my comic book, stress about jobs, drink
beer to combat the stress, eat pizza to combat the beer, work out
to combat the pizza, use stress about jobs to get me through the
workout. It's a vicious cycle.
What's your motto?
“Jesus is comin'...so look busy."
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
A movie? Who are we kidding here? The best I
can hope for is some cheesy lifetime original series, possibly an
infomercial.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
"Screw 'em if they can't take a joke"
Who is the person you most admire?
It's a three-way tie between Mike Patton, Janeane
Garofalo and Sam Raimi.
When and where were you the happiest?
When my little sister was living with me out
here (Los Angeles) for the summer.
If you could have one super power what would
it be?
Telekinesis, both for professional prowess and
for fun party tricks. Plus, it would eliminate that pesky need to
"find the remote."
