GirlGeek of the Week
April 2000
Areewan Phichitphichetkul
Areewan spent her undergraduate years in Bangkok,
Thailand, studying political science at Chulalongkorn University.
In late 1996 she relocated to the US to continue her studies. Instead
of pursuing politics further, Areewan chose the geeky path, earning
a Master's degree in computer art from the Savannah College of Art
and Design in Georgia.
Though she was always attracted to art, it's the use of digital
media that led to her career change. "We live with art," says Areewan,
"People need to see it in everyday life in new and innovative ways."
When did you first discover your love and/or
obsession with computers and technology?
Since I started at Savannah College of Art and Design. It introduced
to me a way to parlay my love of art and fascination with new technology.
How do you earn a living?
I continue to wear many hats and enjoy the diversity
I have at GoProjex
in the above stated capacity! And I currently work at New Course.
Do you consider yourself a Geek?
Of course I am. I envision my art and make it happen with my computer.
That's geeky!
What is your favorite Web site?
I like Gnomist
and Pixelon for their great sense of graphics. And I'm proud
of my aphichit.
What do you do when you are not working?
Go to the gym, make collages, listen to cool music, and of course...
geek-out on my computer.
