GirlGeek of the Week
April 2001
Christine Triantafillou
At the tender age of nine, Christine Triantafillou
became seriously interested in visual arts and entertainment. From
elementary school, through to college she produced and performed
in musicals and video projects. This translated to a love of technology
when she majored in radio/film/tv at the University of North
Carolina.
It gave Christine a great sense of power to know that she was a
woman and could also assemble and operate all of the equipment whether
it was a camera, CG, switcher or linear editing system. After graduating,
Christine took a job with Avid Technology, providing support for
their non-linear video editing software.
Though the job was more technical than she had anticipated, Christine
overcame the learning curve and became an Avid expert. The job provides
a perfect mix of visual art and technology for this filmbuff/GirlGeek.
How
do you earn a living?
Today I earn a living as a freelance editor and technician in New
York City.
Do you consider yourself a Geek?
I
don't really consider myself a geek. I consider myself to be more
of a creative type who just happened to fall into the technical
world.
What is your favorite Website?
My favorite web site is Editorsnet.com
What
do you do when you are not working?
When
I am not working, I like to listen to music, exercise, and spend
time with family and friends.
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
I
think Cher would play me if there were a tv movie made because I
once heard her say that she didn't care what people thought of her
because she only answered to two people herself and God and that
is exactly how I feel.
What
would be the title of your autobiography?
The
title of my autobiography would be "I Dare You To Tell Me That
I Can't Do It"
Who
is the person you most admire?
The
person that I most admire is my Grandmother who was a Greek immigrant
and came to the USA in the early 1900's and taught herself how to
speak and read English, worked in a factory, and raised a family
of 6 children on her own. She was a pioneer.
When
and where were you the happiest?
I
would have to say that I was the happiest in June of 1994 when I
was performing in a 26 show musical.
If
you could have one super power what would it be?
If I had one super power, it would be to cure people of their prejudices.
